Model Network: Working With Agencies
If you are pondering the thought of becoming a model regardless of your sex you will need to have self confidence. There are many different characteristics that will attribute to your modeling career but if you are fully prepared and confident model agencies will be scrambling at your feet in hopes of signing you on with them.
Model agencies look for certain characteristics in new prospects before signing on a new model. If you are a male model in hopes of finding a model agency these are the qualifications that you should prepare yourself for. Model agencies are looking for male models that fit these requirements: height should be between 5'11 and 6'2 and should weight under 175 pounds. Your body should be toned and fit however you don't have to be a body builder. You will want to have a clear complexion that will play a part in your upcoming career as a model as well. If you don't have the best posture you'll need to practice straightening your posture before you attempt to get hired by any modeling agency, they don't want a model that slouches.
The qualifications are completely different for female models. Model agencies are looking for the whole package when it comes to finding a new fresh faced model. Height is a major requirement if you aren't at least 5'8 you most likely won't stand a chance. Body type is also a major factor but it also depends on what type of modeling you are interested in. If you are planning on doing runway modeling the typical size is 34-24-34, you'll also need to have good posture. Your facial features also play a part in your future of modeling; if you have a crooked nose or uneven mouth your dreams of being a model stop here. Agencies look for a defined jaw line, high cheek bones and wider set eyes.
There are many different modeling opportunities on the market. Agencies are looking for models to fit their needs; underwear models, magazine models, local department stores, fashion shows, sports, commercials and fitness. Decide on which categories you are comfortable with but don't limit yourself to just a few categories. The point is to get out there and make a name and portfolio for your self.
Once you have been signed on with an agency your agent will inform you about all of the newest auditions. Make it a habit to attend all of the auditions, you have to start somewhere and you never know when it will be shot at making it big. Don't strictly rely on your agent for news on auditions and casting calls take it upon yourself to research and find local job opportunities. If you live in a small town it will be in your best interest to either plan on traveling for modeling jobs or moving to a larger city where modeling opportunities are plentiful.
Remember before you sign a contract with a modeling agency to read the fine print. The contract between you and the agency will entail payment information, rules, rights and obligations by both you and the agency. Read the contract in its entirety before signing it so that you are aware of every detail.
